  • I always look forward to the next big Baseball Card Shows. Now, I understand that Card Shows are not accessible for everyone, but for those that wait for the bigger shows like The National, Philly, Burbank, Dallas, Nashville, etc., this conversation may be useful.
This is a video carrying over from the first video where we discussed buying at card shows versus buying online. I picked out some comments and shared your thoughts and questions on the matter. Thank you to everyone that contributed to the conversation!
What do y'all think? Do y'all partake in the bargain boxes to try and find gems? What is your intention? Are you looking at bargain bin boxes for bulk deals to resell or to add to your collection?

Hi Sammy. I enjoy looking thru the bargain boxes at the smaller shows. At the National this year I only looked through only 2 -3 on Friday before I left to come home. I was attending the National to find specific cards for my collection.

I love bargain bin shopping when I have the time. I don’t do it much at bigger shows because I normally have a bigger budget and very specific cards in mind. When I do have time I can usually tell pretty quickly (in the first row of cards) whether or not it’s a good box. Pricing, especially based on condition is usually something a dealer will be consistent on throughout, so if I don’t see positives in the first bit I look through, I move on. My back can only take so much. I will also maintain that the same approach can be taken on eBay to find great bargains and buying multiple cards can get you a multi card discount, same as in person. With either approach you just have to take time and be methodical.

I always look in the vintage bargin bins. I find great undervalued cards in these bins. I am very selective with respect to condition. I try to look for near mint or better. I especially love the undervalued leaders' cards. You get star players at a fraction of the price to their individual solo card. If I see a box that has vg or ex cards. I will pass.
I find dealers will also give a deal if you buy in in bulk.
    Another great topic, Sammy.

Each collector has a different budget. Bargain bins are great for those on a tight budget. I personally like all aspects of card shows. Each and every card collection is its own work in progress.
( I have personally found some GREAT deals in bargain bins )

Good topic. I like the bargain bin boxes. A tip for the dealers would be, to make sure their boxes are organizes, but they do serve their purpose. Whether it's commons of minor stars, filler cards, for set completions or modern and ultra modern base cards...something for everyone. Every now and then, there's a card or cards in those dollar bins, that do have more than just a dollar value, I also think it's a decent entry point for newer and younger collectors, who don't feel comfortable spending ''big'' money at their first show or couple of shows. Yeah.

Awesome video, Sammy! Thanks for using my response. I love bargain boxes, but unfortunately, I don't spend much time going through them. I know you can absolutely find amazing deals in them from time to time. Most shows I attend are one day shows, so I usually don't want to allocate a lot of my time on the floor looking through dollar boxes. I absolutely would at a smaller or multi-day show. I usually spend time going through bargain slab boxes at most shows, though, and have grabbed some awesome cards out of those from time to time.

most are just stuffed with recently opened ultra modern product that weren't hits from 2018-2024 - if they are legit older cards, 90s or older then it's fun

Gave a video like. I have had nothing but negative experiences from bargain bin shopping. My take is you could really find a card marked for 20 dollars half off for 10 dollars and feeling that the card is a 25-dollar card and it working out awesome for you. My experience has just been a time suck. The bargain boxes weren't really bargains which steals your time at the show. Moving forward, I would only look through them if I've seen all the tables at a show and decide to treasure hunt. Great video, Sammy

I have kind of a love/hate relationship with them. I never cared for them in the past. Now I am realizing at larger shows I just don’t have the patience to go through the bins, there is so much else I want to see. At small shows I find myself quite patient with them because there just isn’t a whole lot else too see. I have had good experiences with them though and actually find many items that mean more to me sentimentally than are of any actual value.
